Photographing architectural models
Here are a few guidelines for commissioning architectural model photography:

  • Ideally, a written brief should be produced, showing a site plan with the orientation of the model, the direction and content of shot and the angle of view (ie. eye level etc) and background to be used. We have graduated blues and greys, as well as a wide range of coloured paper drops. Cloudscapes are also available
  • Clients should consider creating their models with the ability to remove walls, roofs, adjoining buildings, and having access from the floor, to enable all the necessary photography to be completed
  • If a model has an integral lighting system, it may be necessary to correct the colour balance with filters, especially if the light source is flourescent. Ideally, the light source should be removable so that flash or tungsten lighting can be substituted
  • Coloured lighting effects should always be backed up by taking the same views with conventional lighting
  • We have a modelscope, which gives high quality full-frame shots on 35mm. It can be focused and the angle of view is approximately the same as that of a 40mm lens.
